Varsity Lakes Community Limited
Dream it.
Varsity Lakes Community Ltd (VLCL) was established in late 2006 to provide leadership and ensure ongoing community prosperity for Varsity Lakes.
The initial year saw the establishment of the constitution, registration of a not for profit company limited by guarantee, the appointment of a Board, holding of monthly Board meetings and commencement of planning for the company.
Identifying the need for a Community Organisation
Varsity Lakes Developer Delfin Lend Lease realised the need for a community governance structure to ensure that on their departure from Varsity Lakes in 2011, there will not be a void left within the areas of:
Custodianship of Community assets
Leadership
Coordination and facilitation
Branding, marketing and promotion
Networking, relationships and lobbying
Care of the community and environmental assets – gardens, parks, bicycle tracks, walking tracks, boat ramps, Lake Orr and the associated wetlands
Economic development – investment attraction, business attraction, encouragement of innovation
Community events – establishing, coordinating, operating
They wanted to ensure this special place that had been developed with support and input from many stakeholders in the region, continued and prospered after their departure.
A Brief History of VLCL
A Working Party was formed in early 2006 to look at what was needed to ensure the ongoing sustainability and prosperity of Varsity Lakes.
Meeting monthly, the Working Party recommended the formation of Varsity Lakes Community Ltd in the form it is today, developed the constitution, identified the boundaries of the Varsity Lakes Area and were prepared to be the foundation membership base and to form the initial voluntary Board.
VLCL was created to provide leadership for the Varsity Lakes Community and to ensure ongoing community prosperity.

“A sustainable community is one that is determining its own future. VLCL was set up as a vehicle for the community to come together, resolve issues and partner for a better future.
Its function is to identify the needs of the community and provide the support and leadership required to manage those needs, be it by coordinating community programs, lobbying government, hosting community events or any other activity.”
Former Chairman of VLCL | Pete Cummins
