Meet the Sports House Team

Founded in 2006, the members of VLCL have been working quietly in the background to position themselves to take on their new role.

They have set up links between community groups, local authorities, clubs, sport and recreation providers, church groups, care providers, schools, residents and businesses and have already hosted a swag of community events. They have produced a disaster management guide for the area, helped to secure approval for a local farmers’ market, undertaken promotions, worked on the creation of new community facilities and successfully sourced grants from government and private funds.

Their achievements have already begun to be formally recognised. In 2007, VLCL won an Encouragement Award in the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships.

In 2009 they were nominated for a Gold Coast City Council award for work in community safety. With Lend Lease’s role in the community drawing to a close, now is the time for the group to establish a more prominent public presence. One by one, the board members introduce themselves to their community. All are voluntary positions. The directors each represent a sector of the community – residents, businesses, community associations or local educators.
